Sentinel specialises in Engineering and Fabrication, construction equipment fabrication, mining equipment fabrication and fabrication trade, supply, overhaul, and onsite support of all mobile equipment and fixed plant. Our goal at Sentinel is to provide our valued customers with a one-stop-shop solution for engineering and fabrication work, to help save both time and money.
Based in Emerald, Queensland, Sentinel Engineering and Fabrication currently employs a dedicated team of 16 staff. Sentinel is committed to building a knowledgeable team of industry experts who are focused on continually supporting our valued customers. Our team boasts over 100 years combined experience in the mining, agricultural and construction industries, with extensive technical support in all aspects of life cycle management for Mining, Construction, Agricultural and Transport Equipment. Additionally, as part of our commitment towards supporting younger workers who are just joining the local workforce, we also take on school-based Engineering Fabrication Apprenticeship trainee for each year.
In addition to our facilities on site, Sentinel Engineering and Fabrication also has the transport capabilities needed to collect equipment directly from your site. With transport options available Australia- wide, we can travel to the site, retrieve equipment, take it back to our workshop, complete all necessary works and then return the equipment to your site. In this way, we handle all of the logistical details with no transport delays or third-party hold-ups. With our transport division, we can manage all cranage and haulage for your equipment relocations and maintenance requirements.
Sentinel has extensive experience working for most original equipment manufacturers (OEM’s) and services a wide range of customers both domestically and internationally. Customers include global mining company Anglo-American, multinational commodity trading company Glencore, metallurgical coal mining business Fitzroy Australia Resources, machine manufacturer Australian Mining Equipment (AME) and SwarmFarm Robotics, pioneers in agricultural engineering and robotics.
In working towards this goal, Sentinel Engineering and Fabrication purchased a 10-acre site and set about constructing customised facilities. The new abrasive blasting and painting facility is 40m long x 20m wide and 6m high with the latest recovery and filtration systems fitted. The main workshop measures 60m long and 30m wide, 14m high, and with 100-tonne crane capacity. Our facilities have been outfitted with the latest equipment to ensure that all manner of work can be carried out onsite in Emerald.
The new setup offers 26,000m² of hardstand space, plus 1,800m² of workshop floor space. The workshop itself includes overhead cranage, a 525T brake press, lathe, milling equipment, plasma cutting facilities and 1000V of power. With these facilities, Sentinel Engineering and Fabrication can take on heavy fabrication, structural fabrication, blast and paint, equipment overhauls, wash plant and prep work, onsite maintenance, repairs and even onsite breakdowns.
Sentinel Engineering and Fabrication in its current form began in 2018. After 20 years spent working in the mining industry (including superintendent roles in mining operations), our Managing Director decided to purchase an engineering business in Emerald. While the business itself was small, the focus was much larger – to develop a local engineering and fabrication business that would be able to cater to a wide range of fabrication work, mining, transport and agricultural equipment needs.
Even though Emerald is surrounded by several large mining operations, all larger equipment due for overhaul has generally been transported more than 400km north to Mackay – a costly and time-consuming process. A local solution was needed. So, a decision was made to expand Sentinel Engineering and Fabrication into a full-scale local operation with the facilities necessary to care for the life cycle management of all Mining Equipment, Construction, Agricultural, and Transport.
Our broad range of industry experience and technical expertise allows us to put forward proven concepts and strategies to our customers to optimise all equipment. At Sentinel Engineering and Fabrication, we believe a comprehensive knowledge-base and significant experience working with relevant equipment plays a vital role in doing the job right.
This is demonstrated time and time again when a new customer came to us recently with several major component failures from their equipment we were able to help. The customer was at a loss as to how the damage had occurred since the machine was less than 12 months out of overhaul. The team at Sentinel set to work inspecting and identifying the affected components and soon determined the cause of the problem. The many years of industry experience proved vital in helping the team at Sentinel to quickly identify the failure mode and resolving the issue and correctly repairing and installing new components.
Sentinel Engineering and Fabrication is committed to carrying out high-quality work, whilst also ensuring a very high level of accredited safety, every time. As a registered labour hire provider, Sentinel is compliant with internationally recognised ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems. Sentinel is also compliant with the recognised Australian and New Zealand standard for safety management, AS/NZS 4801.
In addition to our fabrication and engineering services for mobile equipment and fixed plant, Sentinel also specialises in the manufacture of explosive material storage tanks. Our manufactured tanks are capable of storing explosive material in both liquid and granular form. These tanks, which are built for onsite storage, must adhere to strict manufacturing safety guidelines to ensure they will function in the manner that they have been designed. Because of the stringent compliance guidelines, this is a very niche area of fabrication, with few companies offering this service. Recently we have been fabricating these tanks for a range of customers.
